India–US Air Cargo Plunges to 9-Year Low

Air cargo movement between India and the United States has plunged to a nine-year low, following steep tariff hikes imposed by the Donald Trump administration, The Times of India reported, citing official data. Data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation showed that India shipped 4,319 tonnes of goods to the US during the January–June 2025 period, down from 7,152 tonnes in the same period last year. Even during the pandemic years of 2020 to 2023, freight volumes ranged between 5,000 and 9,000 tonnes. The last time India–US trade figures were this low was in 2016, when volumes stood at 3,750 tonnes. Separately, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said his administration would lower the high tariffs levied against India, offering the first clear indication of progress toward resolving a trade dispute that has strained bilateral ties in recent months.
