UK Producer Prices Up 3.4% in September
Factory gate prices for UK-manufactured goods rose 3.4% year-on-year in September 2025, picking up from an upwardly revised 3.1% increase in August. Out of ten product groups, nine contributed to the rise, led by food products and motor vehicles and transport equipment, which, despite edging slightly lower to 4.6% (from 4.7% in August) and 6.4% (from 6.5%), made the largest contributions to the overall increase. Prices also accelerated for textiles, apparel, and leather goods (5.3% vs. 5.1%). Meanwhile, costs grew at a softer rate for chemicals and pharmaceuticals (2.1% vs. 2.3%) and for paper and paper products (0.5% vs. 1%). In contrast, prices for coke and refined petroleum products continued to decline, though at a slower pace (-3.5% vs. -9.1%). On a monthly basis, producer output prices were unchanged, following a 0.2% increase in August. The UK’s ONS resumed publication of PPI data for September 2025, following a suspension in March caused by a chain-linking error.
