The United States said on Thursday it will remove tariffs on some foods and other imports from Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, and El Salvador under framework agreements designed to give US firms greater access to those markets, Reuters reported. The agreements are expected to help lower prices for coffee, bananas, and other foodstuffs, a senior Trump administration official told reporters, adding that US retailers were expected to pass on the benefits to American consumers. Most of the framework deals with the four countries should be finalized within the next two weeks, the official said, with additional agreements possible before the end of the year. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Wednesday said the US planned some “substantial” announcements in the coming days that would help reduce prices on coffee, bananas, and other fruits. The framework agreements would maintain tariffs of 10% on most goods from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Argentina, and 15% for imports from Ecuador.
