Brazil Auto Market Rebounds as July Production and New Car Sales Surge

Brazil Car Production Rebounds in July

Brazil’s vehicle production increased 3.1% month-over-month to 253.9 thousand units in July 2026, rebounding from a 3.0% decline in June and reaching the highest level since March. Light vehicle output rose 2.9%, driven by a 4.3% increase in passenger car production, which more than offset a 2.9% decline in light commercial vehicles. Truck production climbed 11.2%, supported by gains across all categories, while bus output fell 8.0%. Growth in the first seven months of the year rose to 8.3%. According to Anfavea, Brazil ranked as the world’s second-fastest growing vehicle producer, behind India (14.5%). Despite weaker exports and rising imports, the domestic automotive industry remained resilient, supported by solid local demand. Anfavea President Igor Calvet stated the sector’s performance was significant despite external trade challenges and import volumes exceeding historical averages. On an annual basis, output rose 5.9%.

Brazil New Car Sales Hit Highest Since 2014

Brazil’s new vehicle sales rose 2.6% month-over-month to 279.5 thousand units in July 2026, rebounding from a 0.8% decline in June, marking the highest level since December 2014. Electrified vehicles continued to gain market share, accounting for 23.5% of total registrations, up from less than 11% a year earlier, rising to record registrations of 25.8 thousand fully electric vehicles. Truck sales continued to recover, rising 19.4%, aided by financing incentives under the Move Brasil program, while bus sales remained weak, slowing to 1.9% from 36.7% in the prior month, and down 10.7% so far this year due to delays in the Caminhos da Escola program. Compared with a year earlier, sales jumped 14.9%, marking the strongest monthly performance of 2026 despite the school holiday period. In the first seven months of 2026, total vehicle sales exceeded 1.7 million units, up 17.9% from a year earlier, as sales of electrified models surged 120.8%.
