CAC 40 Slides Amid Trade Tensions Over French Wine

The CAC 40 fell 1.0% to around 8,030 on Tuesday, continuing the downward trend from the previous session, as investors remained cautious over escalating tensions in Greenland. Donald Trump threatened a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne to pressure President Emmanuel Macron into joining his “Board of Peace” initiative. In response, LVMH dropped 1.8%, whereas Pernod Ricard showed little reaction, rising slightly by 0.4%. Other luxury stocks underperformed, with Kering leading losses, down 2.8%, and Hermès falling 1.5%. Other notable decliners included Legrand (-1.7%), Schneider Electric (-1.6%), Edenred (-1.3%), and Airbus (-1.2%). On the upside, Renault rose 2% after forecasting 2025 global sales of 2.34 million vehicles, up 3.2% and ahead of the 1.6% market growth, with all three brands exceeding the market.
