China Stocks Remain Under Pressure

The Shanghai Composite fell 0.3% to 3,852 on Wednesday, hitting a fresh one-month low, while the Shenzhen Component dropped 0.4% to 13,243, its lowest level since December 2025, as investors remained cautious despite signs of progress in US-China trade talks. The expectations for an extended trade truce between the two economies are firming, with the two sides discuss cutting tariffs on goods including US energy and agricultural products. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that he will meet his Chinese counterpart, He Lifeng, this weekend ahead of the Sept. 24 summit between President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in Washington. Despite the latest signs of progress, investors remained cautious ahead of the leaders’ meeting, with the outcome still uncertain. Notable decliners included PetroChina (-1.6%), China Jushi Co., Ltd (-1.6%), CATL (-2.6%), Luxshare Precision Industry (-1%), and Muyuan Foods (-1.3%).
