Baltic Dry Index Rises to Over 1-Week High
The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, climbed roughly 2% to its highest since March 9 at 2,064 points on Wednesday, following a modest decrease in the prior day. The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, surged 3.4% to 2,986 points; and the panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 2.1% to 1,891 points. On the other hand, the smaller supramax index decreased by 1.3% to 1,240 points.
