China Export Growth Matches Estimates

China’s exports soared 25.0% year-on-year to USD 401.44 billion in August 2026, matching forecasts and accelerating from July’s 23.9% growth. The increase was driven by strong demand for semiconductors and other high-tech products, as well as Chinese-made cars, despite extreme weather. Shipments to the US surged 34.4% yoy to USD 42.5 billion, up from USD 31.6 billion in July, ahead of an expected meeting between the two nations’ leaders scheduled for later this month. Last month, Premier Li Qiang called for efforts to stabilise external demand and expand international trade cooperation amid rising uncertainties in the global environment. For the first eight months of the year, total exports increased 19.3% yoy to USD 2.92 trillion. During the period, exports rose for agricultural products (8.4%), refined oil (24.7%), pharmaceuticals (9.3%), rare earths (53.5%), and unwrought aluminum and aluminum products (35.4%).
