US Stocks Hold Slight Gains After PPI

US equity futures remained slightly higher amid soft producer price data, while AI companies mostly held their recent gains. The S&P 500 inched up to a record, while the Dow gained 0.3% and the Nasdaq 100 was flat. Chip stocks and companies with exposure to AI infrastructure held their strong gains from yesterday, tracking counterparts in South Korea. Reports that Anthropic is chasing an IPO and its recent purchase of Decart AI continued to underpin the outlook for compute expenditures. Micron, Nvidia, and Amazon were higher. Meanwhile, headline and core producer prices were lower than expected in July, aligned with the softer price pressures unveiled in yesterday’s CPI report and consolidating market expectations that the latest data does note warrant a rate hike by the Federal Reserve next month.
