Cattle Fall Lower

Live cattle futures posted 60 cent to $1.55 losses on the day. Last week’s cash trade was mostly $220-222 late across the country. Nothing has been reported for this week. Feeder cattle futures were $1.10 to $1.97 lower at the close. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was down another 17 cents on August 31 to $329.14.

Monday’s Crop Progress report showed the US pasture rating at 18% gd/ex, down 3 with the week prior. The Brugler500 index fell 7 points to 245.

Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were higher in the Tuesday afternoon report, with the Chc/Sel at $19.30. Choice boxes were up $3.93 at $379.75, with Select $1.96 higher to $360.45. USDA estimated the Tuesday Federally inspected cattle slaughter at 106,000 head, with the weekly total at 207,000 head. That is up 2,000 head from the previous week.
