Chinese Stocks Gain as Economic Data Looms

The Shanghai Composite rose 0.2% to around 3,937 on Monday, while the Shenzhen Component gained 0.4% to 14,409, as investors positioned ahead of a busy week of economic data. Markets are awaiting key indicators, including fixed-asset investment, industrial production, retail sales, the unemployment rate, house prices, and foreign direct investment figures, for fresh clues on the strength of China’s economic recovery. On the corporate front, Hygon Information Technology added 1.4% after reporting stronger revenue, net profit, and R&D spending. Other notable gainers included BYD (0.8%), NAURA Technology (1.1%) and Suzhou Dongshan Precision (2.5%). On the downside, Kweichow Moutai tumbled 3.9% after reporting a decline in first-half net profit. Investors also awaited GigaDevice Semiconductor’s earnings report on Tuesday to gauge demand trends in the semiconductor industry.
