Asian Stocks Surge to Record Highs

Asian equity markets climbed to record levels on Wednesday, supported by easing tensions in the Middle East and renewed momentum in an AI-led technology rally. The US reaffirmed its ceasefire with Iran, confirmed that offensive operations have ended, and temporarily suspended efforts to assist stranded vessels exiting the Strait of Hormuz to allow time for potential renewed negotiations. Technology shares were the main driver of regional gains, with South Korea’s KOSPI surpassing the 7,000 mark for the first time, boosted by strong buying in AI-linked stocks. Shares of Samsung Electronics surged over 15%, pushing past $1 trillion in market capitalization and joining TSMC as the only two Asian companies to have crossed the key threshold. Benchmark indices in Australia, China, and Hong Kong also moved higher. Japanese markets, however, remained closed due to public holidays.
