China New Home Prices Fall at Slowest Pace in 8 Months

China’s new home prices across 70 cities fell 3.0% year-on-year in August 2026, slowing from a 3.2% decline in the previous month. This marked the 38th consecutive month of annual declines, though the pace of contraction was the slowest since December 2025, suggesting continued policy support is easing pressure on the property market. Among major cities, price declines moderated in Guangzhou (-1.9% vs -2.2%), Shenzhen (-2.3% vs -2.9%), Chongqing (-3.1% vs -3.7%) and Tianjin (-4.1% vs -4.4%). Beijing’s decline was unchanged at 2.3%, while Shanghai remained the standout performer, with new home prices rising 3.0%, matching July’s pace. On a monthly basis, new home prices edged down 0.1%, mirroring the declines in both July and June.
