USD/SGD Rebounds as Upside Momentum Builds, but 1.2705 Resistance Caps Gains

Today Markets Analysis: USD/SGD has staged a sharp rebound, with short-term momentum turning higher after the pair broke above previous resistance. However, the Singapore dollar remains supported by a relatively firm Nominal Effective Exchange Rate (NEER), while the 1.2705 area represents a significant technical barrier for further US dollar gains.
USD/SGD Momentum Turns Higher
USD/SGD climbed to around 1.2686 after previously trading within a narrower range, marking a clear shift in short-term momentum.
United Overseas Bank strategists Quek Ser Leang and Lee Sue Ann now see an upside bias developing over the next one to three weeks, although they expect the 1.2705 resistance level to remain difficult to overcome initially.
The pair’s move above 1.2675 has weakened the previous bearish outlook, with downward momentum fading and buying interest beginning to emerge.
Near-term support is seen at 1.2670, followed by 1.2660. A more important support level is now positioned at 1.2640, which UOB considers necessary to hold if the developing bullish momentum is to remain intact.
1.2705 Remains the Key Technical Barrier
Despite the stronger rebound, USD/SGD has yet to establish a sustained break above the 1.2700 region.
UOB identifies 1.2695 as an intermediate resistance level, followed by the more important 1.2705 barrier. A decisive break above 1.2705 would strengthen the case for a more sustained recovery in USD/SGD.
Until that occurs, the pair could remain vulnerable to consolidation following its recent advance.
Singapore Dollar Retains Underlying Support
The technical recovery in USD/SGD comes despite the Singapore dollar’s broader fundamental support.
The SGD Nominal Effective Exchange Rate remains comfortably above its mid-point, providing an underlying buffer for the currency even as the US dollar strengthens in the near term.
This leaves the currency pair at an important technical crossroads: momentum currently favours the US dollar, but the strength of the SGD’s broader positioning could make a sustained move higher more difficult.
Key USD/SGD Levels

| 1.2695 | Near-term resistance |
| 1.2686 | Recent rebound high |

| 1.2640 | Key support for bullish momentum |
Today Markets View
USD/SGD has shifted from a mildly bearish setup to a more constructive short-term outlook following the strong rebound above 1.2675. However, 1.2705 remains the level to watch. A sustained break above it would signal that the recovery has further room to develop, while a failure to clear resistance could see the pair consolidate or retrace toward 1.2640.
“USD/SGD has regained upside momentum, but the recovery is approaching an important technical test. The 1.2705 level is likely to determine whether this is simply a short-term rebound or the beginning of a broader move higher. Holding above 1.2640 would keep the bullish structure intact.”
