Sensex Rises on US-Iran Deal Hopes

India’s BSE Sensex opened about 1.1% higher at 76,252 on Monday, following gains from the previous session and tracking advances across Asian markets, as optimism over a potential US-Iran peace agreement eased concerns about global energy supply disruptions. Investor sentiment improved after reports that Washington and Tehran had largely negotiated a memorandum aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, FTSE announced that Tata Capital, Lenskart Solutions, LG Electronics India, Meesho, ICICI Prudential Asset Management, and Groww will be added to its FTSE All-World and FTSE All-Cap indexes effective June 22. Among the notable gainers were HFCL (+8.8%), Apollo (+5.8%), Eicher Motors (+5.3%), Sun Pharma (+5.5%), and InterGlobe (+ 2%). On the downside, Hindalco declined 2.1% after the company reported a surprise drop in quarterly profit due to higher expenses linked to disruptions at its US unit Novelis. Other laggards were MTAR (-2.1%), HBL (-2.2%), and Info Edge (-4.2%).
