DAX Starts the Week on Cautious Note

The DAX 40 was flat to lower around 26,020 on Monday, mirroring a cautious mood across European markets due to escalation tensions in the Middle East and ahead of a key ECB policy decision due later this week. The institution led by Christine Lagarde is widely expected to hike interest rates by 25 bps on Thursday. Inflation in the Eurozone has already surpassed the 3% mark and is increasingly far from the ECB’s target of 2%. Meanwhile, investors assessed the implications of the AfD’s victory in Saxony-Anhalt, which dealt a heavy blow to Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s CDU and raised concerns over political stability. Qiagen NV and Vonovia posted the biggest losses, each down over 2%. On the upside, chipmaker Infineon Technologies (3.2%) and AI-related stocks Siemens Energy (2.3%) and Hochtief (2%) advanced the most.
